Real women

I have had this as a draft for over 9 months unpublished. But it is something  that has been really bothering me lately.  I saw this image tonight and it says it far better than I can: (Original Source :

A statement I often hear:

“It is so good to see a real woman on stage” (I am going to write a whole blog post on this subject alone soon).

“Real Women Have Curves”- (the only true thing about this statement is that the movie by this name is fabulous. If you haven’t seen it get hold of a copy).

You know I totally get where these statements and the movement that promotes it comes from. For so many years women who are not the the weight, size, colour, look etc that society deemed ideal were made to feel on the outside. Sometimes like they were not human or not worthy of love.

So this positive empowering message movement started. I get that, I’ve felt it, experienced it.

ALL WOMEN ARE REAL WOMEN. Fat, thin, muscley, curvy, skinny, tall, short, born with male genitalia but identify as women. All of us and some categories I am sure I have missed here.

We should not alienate any other people to make ourselves feel superior. Because we are not. We are all the same. We all feel, doubt and hurt.

Enough said.

The movement I most identify with is: Health at Any Size.

Health at Every Size is the new peace movement.

Very simply, it acknowledges that good health can best be realized independent from considerations of size. It supports people—of all sizes—in addressing health directly by adopting healthy behaviors.” Check it out!
